Discovery

For folks with a tablet or other kind of e-reader, the public library is a bit different. For one thing, it’s mainly in cyberspace and browsing the virtual shelves takes more than a little getting used to. On the plus side, it’s open 24/7 and if a title is available for lending, you can be perusing it within moments of making your selection.

I’ll admit that the virtual library has other differences from the public library – for instance, most of the titles have a shorter loan period and if you place an item on hold, it is extremely likely that it will be made available to you when you simply have no time for it. But browsing the shelves is a bit easier as you can use the tools of cyberspace to narrow your search to exactly what you want. I managed to download and read 4 books in a week’s time.

So if you have a tablet or similar device, I suggest you go online and discover your library again. After all, that’s what it’s there for.

Willpower

Yes, it’s almost Halloween and good luck finding any Halloween candy among all of the Christmas displays. Fortunately, no one ever visits our house. Maybe it’s because of our location – there’s a lot of screaming going on next door. Roller-coasters have that effect on people.

Incompatible

Why is it that media storage is advancing faster than my ability to gather it? First there was VHS tapes and then came DVD’s. For some obscure reason, the new release of the complete Star Wars collection is only available on Blue Ray. Like I really want to scrap my current DVD collection and start over with Blue Ray. When that happens, that’ll be the time the next big thing comes out, won’t it?

We all have to start somewhere

I am sure there are many out there who have questions about the characters in the comic. What is that creature? Where did he come from? And what is his name? I’m not promising I’ll answer all of your questions (especially if you never take the time to communicate them to me) but I’ll try to cover some of them over the next few weeks. See you soon!
